The Call Center Bill (S8626, A9444) represents a significant victory for the member locals of the IBEW Utility Labor Council, who have long advocated for protecting jobs and holding New York State utility companies accountable for the outsourcing of customer service call centers. The Utility Labor Council (ULC), through its advocacy and tireless efforts, was successful in passing S8626; a major win for the IBEW Locals ensuring that the state’s utility workers can maintain their job security and that local communities continue to benefit from employment in the state. Although we are very thankful to the Governor for signing the bill, the final version was not everything that we had intended. We are currently working on amendments to this bill, ensuring that utility call centers remain within the state, protecting good-paying jobs and maintaining high standards of customer service for millions of residents. https://www.nysenate.gov/legislation/bills/2023/S8626/amendment/A
