Expansion of Nuclear Power in New York: A Path to Meeting Climate Goals
As New York State grapples with the reality that it is not on track to meet its ambitious climate goals, the conversation around nuclear power has gained renewed attention. The IBEW Utility Labor Council (ULC) recognizes the critical role that nuclear energy can play in helping the state achieve its carbon reduction targets, while also maintaining energy reliability and ensuring job security for unionized workers. The ULC strongly supports the expansion of current nuclear generation in New York and is committed to collaborating with the state to ensure this is done in a way that prioritizes worker safety, environmental protection, and the long-term reliability of New York’s energy grid. The ULC will continue to work with state officials, utility companies, and nuclear energy experts to ensure that any expansion of nuclear energy is done in a way that positions New York as a leader in clean, reliable, and safe energy production. https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/future-energy-economy-summit-governor-hochul-calls-advanced-clean-energy-technologies-play-key
